Chapter 101 had a very successful Young Eagles weekend on 5/31 and 6/1 flying 250 Young Eagles at Joliet and Schaumburg airports. Our own Butch Benja celebrated his 1,400th Young Eagle flight on Saturday, 5/31 at "Mike's Rally". You can read more about the chapter's big weekend at the EAA Young Eagles site here! You can also find a few more photos of the Joliet rally on our pictures page here.
EAA members understand that the imagination of a child
is boundless. That is why more than 915,000 young people have taken advantage EAA's Young Eagles Program and opened
their eyes to infinite possibilities through flight. By the end of the year 2003,
the centennial of the Wright brothers' first flight and the 50th anniversary of EAA, one million
children will receive a motivational airplane flight and experience a "cockpit laboratory" like none they have imagined.
The enthusiasm that comes from flight is shared at no cost with these young people by more than 22,000 dedicated
volunteer pilots and thousands of ground support volunteers. Most participants are EAA members who generously
volunteer flight time, skills and knowledge to make each journey an individualized experience. Young Eagles flights
have benefited inner-city youth, physically-challenged students, and boys and girls of every race, color and creed.
Well over three thousand Young Eagles have been flown by 101 pilots (see our Eagle - O - Meter). Rallies are held with free airplane rides
for young people age 8 - 17 on the first
Sunday of each month - April thru December
at Schaumburg Regional Airport.
